Some men want the symbol where they can feel it, not where it can be seen. An ear stud is a strange, good place for faith — it sits at the edge of your vision, you forget it is there, and then you catch it in a mirror.
These are the two symbols we are asked for most after the trishul. Both in real gold, both built to be worn every day rather than kept for festivals.
Om, and Cross
The Aum Men’s Ear Stud carries the Om — the syllable the Upanishads call the sound the universe is made of. It is a hard shape to cast well, because the curve of the ‘u’ and the drop of the bindu have to stay distinct at 8mm or the whole thing turns to mush. Ours holds its form.
The Crucifix Gold Gents Earring is a clean gold cross, no ornament, no stones. Christian men in India are badly served by mainstream jewellers — there is almost nothing made for them beyond a pendant. This is a small correction to that.
Devoted to Shiva? The trident has its own home — see our trishul ear studs.
Made to Be Worn, Not Kept
A religious stud is not occasion jewellery. It goes into the shower, into sleep, into a workday. So it is made accordingly: screw back rather than push back, so it does not vanish off a pillow. 9KT alloyed against tarnish, so it does not dull. And if you want white or rose gold, the colour is alloyed into the metal itself rather than plated over yellow — because a plated coat wears off exactly where a piece is handled most, and a symbol you touch is handled a lot.
Cast gold arrives from the mould dull and soft-edged, and sharpening it back costs gold in polishing wastage. Most workshops protect that gold. We spend it. On a symbol, the difference is the whole point — a blunt Om is not an Om.
If Your Symbol Is Not Here
We make a small number of religious designs and we are asked for many more — the Khanda, the Ek Onkar, a particular family deity, an inscription in Devanagari or Gurmukhi. All of that is possible, and none of it is unusual for us.
Send a photograph or a description. We will make it in the karat and colour you want, and it will have a hallmark like everything else we sell.
