Powerful is not a word that many use in the context of jewellery. But, pressure setting in jewellery is an exception, at least for us here at KuberBox. Luxury diamond & jewellery retailers may diss at attributing the “powerful” tag to pressure setting in jewellery, as you will learn shortly. For brands like KuberBox, which consider providing affordable yet stylish diamond jewellery as their founding principles, the pressure setting in diamonds is a blessing. Before we run ahead of ourselves, let’s first understand what is a “setting“?
“Setting” in jewellery refers to the way the diamonds or gemstones are studded on a piece of jewellery. The setting may be done with or without the use of “collets“, with or without using metal jaws (called “prongs“) to hold the diamonds & gems in place.
A “Collet” is a basket shaped metal piece with a halo on which a diamond or gem can be seated. In laymen terms, it is a socket to hold the base of the gem.
Pressure setting creates the illusion of a Solitaire diamond using small melee diamonds.
Question: Can a jewellery have multiple setting styles?
Answer: Yes. There are many different setting styles, like prong setting, pave setting, plate prong setting, channel setting, etc, and it is possible that a piece of jewellery can have multiple setting styles. For instance, in the example below, while the centre gem is set in a prong setting, the accent diamonds are set in pave setting.
Now that you are aware of all the technicalities, let us come back to the main theme of this blog post – How to get a 1 Carat Solitaire look at 1/10th of the cost?
While the textbook definition of a solitaire is a single diamond of at least one carat weight, a solitaire, in daily parlance, is generally referred to a single piece of diamond that is sufficiently big in size. How big exactly? It should be big enough to comfortably look like a distinct piece of diamond from an arm’s length distance. At KuberBox, we term anything above 0.20 carats or 1/5th of a Carat to be a solitaire.
We have already learnt how the pressure setting can be used to achieve a solitaire look and that is the answer to the primary question of this post. The pressure setting is the solution using which you can get a 1 carat solitaire at 1/10th the usual cost. Therefore, if you are not looking to spend excessively and you still want a solitaire, this is as good as it gets. Go for a jewellery with a pressure setting. The infographic below will provide you with a realistic comparison between the price for a real solitaire & a pressure-set solitaire illusion.
You can see that, where you’d have spent INR 300,000 (USD 4655.00) on a 1-carat Solitaire, you can get an equivalent look for as little as INR 30,000 (USD 465.00). It doesn’t take a genius to know how big a savings that is. That is 1/10th of the original cost, and that is really significant. Now you know why we call it “powerful”.
Here are some of our products that make use of this setting and which you can buy from our website –

It’s also called the solitaire setting, the illusion setting (wrong usage but is prevalent), the precious setting, cluster setting, etc. The complete look is sometimes referred to as Solitaire look-a-like, and we like to call them Soli-illusion (Solitaire + Illusion). As with everything in the universe, the pressure setting has some limitations.

When comparing two gemstones with the same cut, clarity, and color, solitaire diamonds tend to have more weight and are more expensive. Generally, solitaire diamonds have a minimum weight of 0.30 carat, while other rings may have more gemstones but lighter carat weights.
